It's called, "Let's see how many MASHes Eldest gets this year."
What is a MASH, pray tell? It stands for Mandatory After School Homework. If you don't have your homework or required paperwork on the day it is due, you march straight to the phone, call your parental-unit and say, "I got MASH for _______". Then you spend from 3:30-4:00 in the library doing homework. If you tell the teacher-in-charge that you don't have homework, they will give you the Bible to read. (The kids learn that lesson quickly.) Oh. And if you get a MASH, the missing item is due the next day and you only get 50% credit.
In other words, MASH = quick way to fail school. But this is true too: MASH = I don't have to be the bad guy, SHE's the one who suffers if she screws up.
Today, the fifth day of classes, Eldest called to say, "I got MASH because apparently a syllabus was due in math today. That's just plain stupid but I've got MASH. Whatever."
And I said, "Well, your golf retreat doesn't start until 4, so you won't miss anything. I hope your day gets better from here."
And she responded with an ever-so-polite,"Yeah right. Like that'll happen."
Gosh. I love her.

Not to my face. But I've seen such a reference on her cell phone . . . err . . . when I accidentally scrolled through her messages.
What's the over/under on the MASH count?
there's probably about 18 weeks in the semester...the count is 1 after about a week...my guess is 10, I'll give her the benefit of some good weeks.

Damn, that's harsh. What happened to demerits and detention? What next? WIll they make them hammer out license plates? That's it! License plates! That ought to teach the little buggers.

um... sure... Don't you just hate it when you pick up a beloved family member's phone to dust under it and your thumb slips and all those old messages just scroll through and then you have to look at it so you can stop it?
